Don't think I'll make the DBR race tomorrow. An unlovely bug is passing through our daughters nursery.

Upside is I may weigh myself to update zwift today

For those of you who follow me on Strava, you’ll have already seen this, but for everyone else, today was the Etape Loch Ness, which I’m pretty sure was the first closed-road sportive since Covid came along.

Was it not for the hassle of getting up to Inverness, I would certainly recommend it to anyone as it was a fantastic event and I really enjoyed it - even the Cat 2 climb!

Finished in 4:34:33 (moving time was about 25 mins less) with about 39 minutes for the climb itself, which I’m pretty happy with.

Have fun Carl, I rode it a few years ago.
You get a great bling medal 🏅
I do indeed have a bling medal

A smidge slower than I planned but I rode quite a bit on my own early on, and the last 25km was on my own as got dropped from the little group I was in on that last long climb out of Batheaston. It was a real slog then to the end (and quite a few gravel paths too slowed me down ;) )

Should add .... my riding on Zwift helped today. They started us in groups of 10-15, 3-5 mins apart ... the group behind me was a club of 30 or so riders so I figured that some of them would form groups and ride together. So my plan was to try to get over the first lump which was about 14km (up to the Westbury White Horse) ahead and when a group caught me the other side then latch on to them.

As they cam past (probably 20km ish) ... I did a little sprint to get in the group and had a nice ride to the first feed station at about 35km. Some of the riders went on, but I topped up water. Started on my own again figuring I'd get caught and do the same again .. was finally caught at Lacock which was about 56km in. I passed a few riders during that 20km, which given I was with the broom wagon both Double Devrills, is quite an achievement for me.

There were 4 of us now and we stuck together until the road signs went missing and we headed the wrong way (as did every one else). We found 3 guys looking a bit lost at 62km, backtracked and now had a group of 7 and we stayed together until the Bath RFC feed station at about 84km. I was ready to leave the food station after topping up water but I stayed with them to leave together which I think ended up being a mistake. Had I left early, had a start, I may have got over the final big climb ahead of them 92-95km and then had a group to ride with to the end. After cresting the hill they were about 100 metres up the road, but I just couldn't close the gap, then legs went as did my free ride to the end.

From then until the end it was just little old me (I passed 4 riders about 3 or 4 miles from the finish) but no one to work with.

Great fun though.

Like an absolute idiot, I’ve chosen tonight’s LaGuardia Super Sprint race as my first event back for more than a month… It’s only 5 minutes or so, but very intense! 20:35 if you fancy it! 😎
I'd love to but .... erm ... no!

Nice one Carl.

I tend to load up the route onto my gps, so I have the fallback safety of having my own route

Happy Monday chaps…

I can’t make the race tonight either. I want to do that league but I won’t have time tonight unfortunately. I’m up for another race on Thursday if someone wants to pick one out.

Yeah - did that, as did the others in my group. The GPS didn't always match the route, this is why we got lost at the one point. They sent a new GPS file the day before the race as some of the roads had become unsuitable and on advice from police, but I'm guessing they had to rush and it wasn't quite accurate. Didn't spoil the day, and I did get to meet other local riders so that was a big positive :okay:

Every other rider we spoke to had exactly the same issue ... just on e of those things.
