Most likely that the sprint pushed up the 20-minute average power to just above the threshold. Your ZwiftPower category is based on the average of your three best 20-minute performances in the last 90 days, so if you already have two performances close to (or even above) the category threshold, it's possible to upgrade even with a sub-threshold performance.

For example, for a 75kg man, the threshold from B to A is 4W/kg (300W) FTP, or 316W over 20 mins (300W/0.95). If your best 20-minute performances are 330W, 315W and 300W, your average is 315W. You only need to replace the 300W performance with a 303W to bring the average up to 316W.

When you upgrade like this, you get a DQ from the race you've done it in, if your finishing category exceeds the category that you were riding in. The solution is to make sure that you 'race up' if there's any danger/chance of you upgrading. :okay:

Another question: I did this ride yesterday and you will see that between 5:06 and 5:37 the graph shows a constant power of 391W. I stopped pedalling in that section but for some reason the exercise bike or Zwift didn't pick that up. As a result my avatar kept pedalling and couldn't get into the 'supertuck' downhill. How can I prevent that from happening?

The last race I entered I got a disqualification and UPG in Zwiftpower. My average w/kg was fine for the category I’d entered but my 15 second w/kg, during the final sprint to the line, just tipped over the upper limit.

I’ll enter a higher category next time but, going by times in this race, I expect to be last 😂

That sounds odd, can you post the link to results?

Here’s the last 4 races. Top one is the UPG. In the other three I finished 4th, 5th and 4th.

I’m relatively new to ZP, so still trying to interpret data, and still learning technique in Zwift racing.

Can you post a link to your ZP profile and also a screen shot like mine below? My shot shows I am a C rider, my average over my best 3 rides (95% of best 20 min power) and the 3 rides that make that up. It could be that going into the last race you was cat D, but the race itself pushed you over the top into C and that's why you got DQ'd. Not sure without seeing your full data.

Thanks Carl I suspect you are right but I don’t get a minimum category listed on my profile.

I’ve only done 6 races so that may be one reason, the other is possibly that I not been on Zwift over summer (so no recent data) though will be getting back to it soon.
Ah, that might be it. Not sure what the minimum number of races is to get a ZP cat .... could be worth doing C races until you get the cat confirmed :okay:

Well that was an epic struggle but after a titanic tussle @bobinski won the race to sit this one out.

@<Tommy> didn't do too bad himself - 2nd on the road?? Amazing

@bridgy and I had a great wee race within a race. I lost group by pure carelessness at the start of the descent and the all dropped anchor and sailed off (terrible metaphor). Paul was TTing it for ages and eventually we settled into a group with the two of us and two PWCC racers and we pipped them in the sprint. Really shows how having teammates makes it more exciting.

How'd everyone else get on? CCC this looked like another course for @Whorty and @IrishAl ?

Thanks Michael. Very well done to you too 👍👍

I was lucky really. I think the guy who came 3rd should of won. The guy who won should of come 2nd. And me maybe 3rd. Just going on form through the race. I kind of feel like I’m bluffing it at the moment. Mind over matter. But the guy who won showed the strength at the end so I guess he did deserve it. (I know that all sound a bit contradictory sorry… I really shouldn’t post right after the races 🙄)

Well done everyone 👍👍
