Re: ToC I strongly suspect they've been properly hung out to dry by the council who originally must have given permission for the road closures on that date, and have subsequently realised it's the jubilee weekend and they're being asked to allow all sorts of other events that this would disrupt so have suddenly gone :stop:

The organisers are so reliant on good relations with the council though, they daren't moan about it.

I'm just speculating of course- at the end of the day it's a big cock up by someone

I have 70mm rims on my commute bike at the moment. If you see me sailing over your house tomorrow AM, do feel free to give me a wave!
They seem to be expecting carnage here in the West Country tomorrow - schools have closed and we've been told only to travel if "absolutely necessary "

I had the edge 520. I sold it to get the wahoo elemnt bolt and I found it a big improvement.

Now I have the elemnt roam too, which has a larger screen so is better for mapping.

The thing about using phones is if you keep it in your pocket then you obviously don’t get the instant live days. If you have it on the bars and you crash then your phone is in the firing line. And like you say the battery life is a factor too.

It does depend on what your planning to use it for. What type of rides.
I really think that even the basic units do all that I currently need. Can connect all the sensors if I want to, will clearly show HR which is the main indicator of how hard I'm working without a power meter, will give me .fit files and have at least basic navigation in case I get lost and my phone died.

Was just noting that given the choice between paying £130 for the Edge 130 and £140 for the Edge 520 (reduced 50% to clear) I might as well take the latter even if I don't envisage using all the features. That's the kind of price range that I'm looking at.

It looks like the west coast is taking the worst of it doesn’t it.

I think in London people are being advised to stay home too but I think I’ll make a judgment call in the morning. Definitely changing the wheels though!

70 mm rims on a commuter bike 😂 You ponce! 😁

😄 Bit harsh!

They’re just great fun to be honest. It makes the commute more enjoyable. And in a weird way they’re more practical than my shallow rims which are clinchers. The 70mm’s are tubs with sealant in them so if I puncture they normally self fix.

So the fact I’m a ponce is merely a coincidence!

Indeed, must give my parents a call tomorrow and tell them to stay in. The live at the top of a big hill in East Devon.

😁

The guy I see commuting on the Titanium Laverack has similarly deep wheels and very noisy hubs. Very nice.

With the prevailing SW wind, a few years back I got the early morning train to Exeter for a bargain £6 & then rode back to Bristol, it was great doing a 100 km ride with a tailwind all the way.
When I stopped for lunch north of the Mendips in a pub in West Harptree the look on the barmaids face was great when she enquired had I ridden far.
