ZRL was brutal, but somehow I survived getting dropped after KoM 2, went nuclear on KoM 3 and got back on

I caught the last lap of your race live - cracking final climb, sprint and finish!!

We set off at 7 tonight (I'm hopeful I can make the start line) - I'll be happy with mid table. I'm expecting to get dropped by the lead group either 1st or 2nd KoM. Can't see me making it to the finish line with the lead group. If/when I do get dropped I'll see if I can grab the odd sprint FTS point :training:

As always, this is very handy to have as a reference. Well done on the catch and top 10.

Is Nathan Krake in your league?

Yes although I didn't see him. I think he may have got dropped on one of the earlier climbs

I'm grateful of your earlier race time and video too @alex_cycles but it's always worrying when you point out how "brutal" a course is and we realise we have 2 more laps to do :surrender:

Indeed, but with the knowledge that you have 6 laps, perhaps your race will start more sensibly? We smashed the crap out of climb 1 and I took 7s off my PR  That might not be the most sensible thing to do for a few poxy FTS points

I had a look at Nathan's race, the start anyway as I missed your start (didn't realise you were in teh same race) - he was dropped on the 1st KoM even though he was pushing good numbers  :surrender:

Yeah I just watched the first part of that one. I was looking out for where I passed him. Essentially I treated the first climb as an FTS and started at the back. Passed him on the first, steep punch and then it really strung out. I was in the first group of about 20 and he was around 40th. So that's why I didn't see him during the race. The first part you're very focussed and only after that able to look around and see who's there.
Lots of ADHD and WMD teams in our league. It's a tough one.

I agree with Alex that ZRL was brutal . Went for FTS up the first KOM did the Alex tactic of start at the back and use the draft through the group got 9th fastest but the front was a quicker and I was distanced over the top and didn't recover so dropped to a group in the 20s came 22nd no fal points at all

38/56 for me. Got dropped on the 1st KoM, couldn't quite hang on and lost the last wheel. Ended up in a little group of 7 or 8. managed to hang on just about to the final climb when they dropped me too.

Brutal.

That was my first race for over 5 weeks, due to holidays etc, so I was probably where I expected to be really. I was at my FTP (220) for most of the race so I couldn't have done much more. When I was dropped on the final KoM I was pushing 300 watts and still couldn't hang on :surrender:

And this is Dev C :laugh:

It's always a bit risky doing that with FTS if you don't get to the front in time. In my race most of the top guys saved their feathers for the bridge right at the end where the FALs are decided. I'd already used mine on the second slope on lap 1 so I just had to muscle through it. (I did save it for that place on the final lap though). To be honest you get the most bang for your feather on the steepest slope. That's how I was able to catch back on in lap 3 and leave the group I was with 6s back.

Team came 6th of 8 but we were a rider short ,5th in the league but tied on points with 3rd and 4th . Having just raced the DRit series their results system put Wtrl to shame . Our race results with segments points wasn't on line 2hrs after our race had finished .

Zwift repeatedly crapped out on me with blue circles of death, after I'd made the effort to get up at 5am to have a spin (ease my legs after a run last night). I got it working in the end, but only after uninstalling and reinstalling and waiting bloody ages for an update. Didn't have time for a ride by then.

Suffering a bit with chilblains on my toes in the past few days, which is an unwelcome new experience for me. My right hip is still regularly achy. Having been close to the form of my life 12 months ago, I'm now feeling like a 44-year old.

I'm hoping that I can build fitness and lose some weight over the summer with some outdoor riding in the sunshine.

I've not been in contention much for top 10 Tiny Race finishes since my mid Feb to mid March lurgy, so I've not sprinted often for 2+ months, but I've had the odd one where my heart rate hit 178-182. In race #2 on Saturday, I did a longer race finishing effort up the ramp and then slightly down to the railway banner finish, where my heart hit 185 for the first time in months if not over a year and I just missed out on an extremely rare pen D podium.

Was so fatigued Sun-Tues besides a brief period Monday afternoon (plus had to scale back my efforts in races 3 and 4 on Sat), where I started stage 2 Pas Normal and then turned it into a recovery ride half way through. Then discovered my heart rate the last two evenings has been crazy high for while sitting around, like ~90 instead of ~65 (my true resting heart rate is probably lower but I do drink quite strong coffee, normally 4 per day, used to be ~8 until few years ago), seems more normal today, but a bit disconcerting aged 52 despite how my fitness it nothing like it was when I was 48...

Guess it was a combo of race fatigue and drinking more strong ground coffees this last week after a big effort by my standards in the first running of Pas Normal stage 1, despite all the in-race weirdness.

Our team was a bit disappointing, but two of the guys had done a long 3-day bike-packing trip over the weekend and had very tired legs.
Hope we'll do a little better as a team next week in the Scratch. We got 6th this week with 1358 points. (I got 435 of them )
