To cap it all, when I got home I booted up Zwift to stamp out some of my frustration up the Zwift KOM. But first, I changed my bike and changed my weight… but without realising, I put in 744kg. I did notice that my ghost avatar took off kind of quickly up the climb!

Haha love this!!

I’ve not been on here for a LONG time.

I’ve just signed up for Zwift again - are you planning ZRL?

Are you (or anyone else?) racing ZRL? The DRS team I'm waiting on are taking a long time to get a team confirmed so might explore options for ZRL, definitely need to do a Tuesday night series to get some motivation

Very unusual. Have you used any Threadlocker?

I’m wary about locking compounds. I put a little copper grease on them.

I’ve replaced them with steel bolts, lightly greased, well torqued!

I’ve got another event (floodlit open event at Hardwick Hall) tomorrow night, which should be pretty cool. Screwed my legs over by doing parkrun this morning, though!

Raced the Hardwick Hall HC last night, brilliantly organised by Bolsover & District CC in the grounds of the NT stately gnome, under floodlights. I was a bit sceptical about my chances because I've been a little overweight throughout the summer (Zwifting around 76.5kg), but a slightly more disciplined diet (combined with poisoning myself with undercooked chicken-of-the-woods mushrooms!) has got me down to a touch under 74kg. I've also been focussing my training more on endurance running in the past few weeks, and not feeling at all zippy on the bike.

I arrived early and warmed up for longer than I usually would. It wasn't full-dark when I was set off at 19:33, but getting that way. I held back a little bit on the gentler 8-9% run up to the switchback, knowing that the worst part was in the second half. I think I made a mistake in not downshifting on the steepest (15%) gradient - the cattlegrid(!) took away so much of my speed that my cadence dropped and I fought to turn the pedals for the last 200m of the course. I crossed the line in 1:40.7, faster than the 32 riders who'd gone off ahead of me, but ready for the inexorable slide down the leaderboard. In the end, I was 12th out of 79 finishers, pleasingly close to some of the strong riders ahead whom I would have expected to have beaten me anyway!

For an interesting comparison, here are my power stats compared with those of Rachel Galler (reigning National Champion), who pipped me by 0.3s!

Her cadence only dropped to 81rpm, whereas mine... 43rpm at the end!

Good performance :okay:

I've been away in Cornwall for the week and did the Edge Hill Hill Climb on Sunday on my return. 3 seconds quicker than last year and set my all time best 4 minute power. I came 8th of 16 on the day - but 1st in the age-adjusted Midlands Hill Climb League, my first 🥇of the year.

I have another one tonight on a hill I've never ridden before - looks like about a 7 minute effort which should be entertaining.

Anyone following the annual WTRL ZRL f*"k up ,First race TT bikes banned for the first round the race of truth individual time trail or are they 😂😂😂 ,Nobody seems to know 🤣😂

Yeah it's almost comforting how regular these issues are. They forgot to turn off TT bikes so some folks had a massive advantage then they eventually just told everyone to use TT bikes at the very 11th hour. Then the power ups were all a bit wrong too. Miss the swift results you get with DRS too.

That said the "race of truth" format is pretty good (aside from the name). Mass start TT with draft off - prefer it to TTT. As a novelty maybe even to a TTR but jurys out.

I'm down in C at the minute with a big of extra timber. Was surprised at the speed the field took off at, ended up reeling in most to get 6th, altho those that started fast had right idea they will have hoovered lots of fal points. I got a few fts as well tho, pleased stamina wasn't too bad.

More annoyingly my HRM decided to not connect for first time in 3 years so I assume I'll probably get half points.

It sounds like DRS had issues with merged pens as well?
DRS was good, for us anyway. Merged pens helped push me hard and I upgraded back into C and from bronze to silver. Set a near pb on fox, which I assume is also partly because I had a fully upgraded Aethos to help me 🤣

I find DRS much closer in races that ZRL. The velo rankings seem more accurate and less sandbagging.

All just a game though, so they say 😉😳🤣

But we know differently 🤣

Yes the races were set up like ECRO so all riders together. This was not how it was meant to be. It gives the strongest riders in any pen draft bitches from higher pens to hang onto so they can beat the rest by even more than they would have anyway.
Totally not the DRS ethos.

In fact I'm of a mind that anyone that can hang on with the faster pens should be racing with them. Boot them out

But since it was only the Prolog, it doesn't count for the League table anyway. I didn't race or stream as I am on a medical time-out.
I hope to be racing again by week 3's TTR, but we'll see.
