Well there was a tailwind.

But on the other hand, the road surface was a bit ... you know ... cobbly.

Massive tailwind. Almost completely flat. Cobbles for just what, a quarter? Some of those are very rideable.
EDIT: I'll stop wibbling now, I've read the article and it covers lots of good reasons that don't require superpowers.

It's still very impressive, but no need for eyeballs to drop out

Hard to believe Hirschi is only 25. Feels a long time since he exploded onto the scene, would be nice to see some sort of return to form
