As discussed in other threads HERE and HERE, it would be great to have one more proper CC Ecosse social ride in November, but given the seasonal hazards of :rain::cold: and black ice, we can aim for Option A) below, but can be flexible until nearer the time, with a Plan B (and even a Plan C) in reserve ...

What's definitely fixed:
The date:
9 November (Sat)
Soup & cake stop: Chez T's (central-ish Edinburgh) for (late) lunchtime [details available off-line to those attending nearer the time]
The Rules:
1) Nobody gets left behind
2) Any bike will do (as long as it's road worthy )
3) There WILL be cake

The options:
Option A) If we are lucky and a proper social ride is possible, start from the Commonwealth Pool (Edinburgh) around 10:15. Trains from Weegieland and main stops along the Central Belt route go every 15 min on Saturdays, and every 30 min from the smaller stations (escorts from Waverley Station or maps can be provided for out-of-townies).
A short-ish ride along this route (56 km/35 miles, with ~ 500m climbing including Poltonmill) would offer of pleasant quiet roads and nice views once you get beyond Bonnyrigg/Lasswade, with the odd slight lumpiness (Poltonmill) thrown in for entertainment, but it should be suitable for all who aren't complete novices and like a wee bit of a challenge (see THE RULES above if you need reassurance ).
It would probably take 3.5 hours or so at the pace of recent CC Ecosse rides, including short stops to admire the scenery. This would mean lunch around 13:30-ish, which would give people a couple of hours of daylight afterwards to cycle or catch the train back home (again escort to the station can be provided).
EDIT: offer of an additional cake stop :hungry::hungry: by Mrs @ShooglyDougie 2/3 of the way round! This would move "lunch" back by about an hour or so ...
Option b) If the weather turns out less than ideal ... :rain::cold: some hardy souls may still want to meet up for a wee social ride, and others would be welcome to just make their own way to the RV at our place (which is near the Commonwealth Pool/Arthur's Seat, details will be provided off-line) ... perhaps a bit earlier, for about 13:00 for lunch?

Option c) If it's really icy, we could still meet up for soup and cake, and just have the Chat without the Cycle

Attending:
Fubar
tug benson (only if it's not snowing or raining )
Rasmus
Col5632
telemark
ShooglieDougie
DougieAB
Mr Messy
Harry_Palmer79

Maybe:
Edindave (prioritising the club run , but may catch up or turn up at the RV :wahhey:)
Scoosh  :cold:

Not able to make it:
MikeW-71 (work getting in the way )
GlasgowFinn (c*r buying getting in the way )

Not waving from the roadside:

I'm in, if we are able to do the full ride Mrs S is still up for the cake stop.

Sounds great! I'd love to take Mrs Shoogly up on this, but I've got no worries about having to leave the RV location again at the end of the day . What do those from further afield think? The additional cake stop :hungry::hyper: would probably move lunch and the ride/train home back by an hour or so, given the slight detour, and that it would be terribly rude to just turn up, hoover up the cake :mrpig: and ride away without a wee bit of appreciative chat with Mrs Shoogly ... (However, the pancake flat terrain  and/or any rain :rain:might turn us into a smelly and dripping horde , and Mrs S might rather not have us cross the threshold :stop:).

Judging by previous CC rides, and the possibility of poor weather it might be prudent to "suck it and see" (for want of a better expression!) on the day -if it's cold and progress is good then 2 cakes stops might be just the ticket, however if there are mechanicals (as there often is!) we may be behind schedule with fading light. I know that doesn't help with the soup/cake preparation business, though I'm sure if we did end up skipping Mrs ShooglyDougie's kind invite of cake then it's all the more for Mr @ShooglyDougie to hoover up when he gets home!

9 November is the first of the Autumn Rugby Tests at Murrayfield, so those coming/ returning by train should be aware ...

Edinburgh may be hooching with ... err ... a couple :giggle: of Japanese rugby supporters ... ;)
