That reminds me, the next time we go to Arran I'm going to take a half hour head start at the lunch break so that I don't get emotionally crushed by seeing a Danish dot on the Bogoullie summit while I'm a third of the way up...

No need to exaggerate like that...

If you need a 30 min headstart i need atleast a 40 min headstart

I think a better solution is a bungee roped round @Rasmus' seatpost , or perhaps getting in a few more miles on your bike
