I saw a picture recently in one of those interior mags of what looked like a dark wood parquet floor in a bathroom. Am I right in thinking that pure wood parquet, for obvious reasons, is a non-starter in a bathroom?

So would it have been perhaps wood parquet click fix or wood look alike laminate click fix or lino?

Cost us £600 and I did all the work myself - plumbing in, replastering walls, tiling, laying lino. But then I'm probably substantially more skilled, and less wealthy, than your average solicitor.

Probably better known as "house porn mags" and less accurate as to what works in practice as "Mr. 15 inch screws 300."

It's with me... in the Doghouse!

We 'Designed' one room each, the Main Bathroom is Mrs FF's, The Cloakroom is mine based loosly on Victorian Industrial theme-ish (awaiting some B&W prints of urban-ness) sand the En-suite is a Comittee job!

I know what it's called, but it's still a toilet in the bedroom. Personally, I don't even want a toilet in the bedroom, yeeuuaagh! I don't want to hear my wife's plops or hide under the covers to escape the smell! I want the toilet as far away from me as possible thanks.

I completely agree (I was thinking of starting a thread along the same lines).
I wanted to get rid of ther toilet in the en-suite and have a double-sized shower instead, but I was out-voted. Instead I try to enforce a 'no-dumping' rule in the en-suite toilet...

Genuine parquet would be a bad idea in a wet environment, as you write. Whatever you choose, give careful consideration to the fact that shiny floors and especially dark shiny floors become reflective surfaces and will show every mark and blemish if you also have overhead halogen lighting. Don't ask me how I know this!

That's a good tip about the reflective thing. As however unlike all the worthy DIY souls on here, I think I will just save and save until I can afford a professional to do a super trendy job without annoying reflections. The dark floor was a good contrast to the white bath and sink, the latter itself being mounted on a long piece of what looked like three inch thick mahogany.

Guess what my 'work in progress' has on the floor! ;)
Guess what points downward, and from over the mirror and all along one wall!
Laid as instructed-not by choice, although it looks smart. Can't wait for the water to attack...;)

I would have preferred Elizabethan flagstones, like Patrick's bathroom. Add in a couple of 'ruggy bits' and Robert's your mother's brother.

But if you received your orders from an 'er indoors type figure, then other orders will be forthcoming which are designed to make the experience of bathing about as carefree as daily life in N Korea e.g. you've got to completely dry yourself while standing up in the bath and then wipe all the walls and floor down with kitchen roll.

I did my bathroom last year. Ripped the whole thing out and replumbed/fitted everything myself including radiators. Considering I'd never done more than put some laminate flooring down, I had very little DIY experience. Everybody said I was nuts. Spent lots of time on YouTube watching "how to" vids and hey presto, managed the lot. Saying that, it's a bit.....er, rustic in some points! But then again so's the rest of the house. I think if the bathroom was perfect it would just make the rest of the house look poo, instead of let say....full of character!!!

You can get some very nice tiles that look like parquet/natural wood/bamboo ect, and when set correctly look fantastic.

What form does it take then? Is it click fix or just like little planks? I've got under floor heating so I think I would have to go for click fix.

It's tounge and groove boarding (about 90x14), which is laid over a chipboard or ply layer. It really did shrug off everything. Didn't shrink, or swell, or anything. Wiped clean. Looked lovely. Expensive (but, then again, how big is your bathroom).

I'm not sure that all bamboo is the same, so it would be sensible to ask for advice.
