what like sora? xx(xx(
so can you use either the ones on the drops or those tabs for upshifts? Or just those tabs?

Levers behind the brake levers move you up the block (going from small to larger cogs), the tabs move you back down the block.

So you can't change up from the drops, like sora then... it can't be that ALL campag's like that surely...

I do - all the time! I find I can reach the thumb button very easily with my thumb - on or off the drops. Likewise, a sideways swipe of the lever is dead easy on or off the drops.

As Chris and I said above, you can easily reach the thumb lever from the drops. This is the system used on all Campag groupsets including the top end ones that pros are using:

oooh god no. xx(;) wouldn't like that. Need to be able to do it with the fingers - the thumb is the only opposable digit, it's a vital component of the grippability of the hand! Too much hand movement required.

Is it really like that on ALL campag shifters, or just the low end sora equivalent?
If the former then campag really are more shite than i thought, and that was quite shite anyway!

Ah Bonj, your reputation as a serious cyclist is in danger. The picture above is of an Ergo from Campag's top group and as you can see it has a thumb lever. They all have it. The Centaur group on my new bike is lighter than Ultegra and of similar quality.

I have never needed to move my hands or loosen my grip in order to change gears - in fact i find that I can change down the block with my little pinkie without having to move my hands from the centre of the bars near the stems sometimes - much more accessable than the Shimano equivalent.

MajorMantra,
Warnings first before pics like that please mate - I am desperately trying to persuade myself I don't need to 'go 11' and those sort of pics do not help my cause at all

TDF teams will ride with whatever equipment they have sponsorship deals with.

I personally prefer Shimano, but the existance of a sponsorhip doesn't make one product better than another

they dont' choose it, they have to have what they're given because of who they're sponsored by. It's all money money money. Not their choice of bike at all

You could get the new Athena for not much more than Centaur. Not sure it's worth it though - everything becomes more expensive when you go to 11.xx(

Not sure about the 09 stuff but 08 Centaur is lighter than 08 Rival. Also, does SRAM give you multiple upshifts like Campag?

To be honest I'm not evangelical about the whole Shimano/Campag/SRAM thing. I slightly prefer the smaller hoods of Campag and SRAM and I like their aesthetics too. Although it doesn't matter much in practice it's also nice to have brake lever that moves in only one plane.

For the absolute best £/weight savings SRAM wins but it wasn't an option and I think Campag may have better front shifting anyway. The only thing that bugs me a little with Campag is the louder freehub but I'm kind of used to it now. It does mean I don't need a bell as I just have to stop pedalling for people to hear me coming.

alot of the teams dont get that good deals for using campag stuff, its just personal prefrence, like all the teams using shimano have shimano stickers everywhere, you dont usualy see this from teams using campag

i use campag...

when on the drops and sprinting, if you need to change down you use your thumb, which is alot safer and more stable than using 1 or 2 fingers, as your thumb works entirely on it's own, where your fingers often make another finger move if you no what i mean

next time your on your bike on the drops, think about what your thumbs doing, as your thumb is usualy just sitting there, not gripping at all...

thats why campag is better, also the fact that all campag cabling gets routed probaly, not just hanging out everywhere like shimano

very nice bike . Pity about the groupset though:biggrin::biggrin:;)

I've counted the cassette sprockets three times and I can only see 10 not 11 . tell me i'm not seeing things ?

What camera do you take out with you on the bike ? I've just bought a compact 10Mp Fuji J150 which is great for out and about snaps but can't see a thing on the LCD in sunlight.
