I'm stuck on Record - have been for a fair while now

If you aren't going to compromise then surely you need Super Record.

thanks for the lesson in taking a picture matt :biggrin::biggrin:

Any time. There are lots of good online tutorials about exposure and other technical aspects of photography if you're interested, not to mention forums like dpreview.com where you can learn a lot. Be warned though, it's as expensive a hobby as cycling.

It's been seriously considered but my credit card can't handle it! At the moment my long-term plan is to upgrade from 9 to 10 speed (I already have the rear mech fitted) by getting a S/H set of 10sp Ergo levers and a new 10sp cassette. By then hopefully the price of Super Record will have come down (or I'll have cleared a decent chunk off my credit card) - or there might be some S/H stuff around - and I'll start playing catch-up again

Are you seriously saying that Campag is worse than Sora?

Well it's ergonomically just as bad isn't it. They both require hand movement or involve difficulty to upshift from either the drops or the hoods.

I've never used either, but the reason being because i wouldn't want to - I know i wouldn't like something that forces me to move my hand to shift from the hoods... especially when such movement is unnecessary.

No, it's different. Each system has its good and bad points.

Matthew

For me, the need to constantly move your hand to shift from the hoods would be a tangible bad point. There isn't a corresponding bad point of shimano or sram, they are ergonomically just as i would want them. YMMV.

campag is not hard to shift from the drops... dont see how there's an argument for this

and its not hard to shift from the tops...although i see how you could try and argue this, but if you havnt tried it, then how do you no, your just speculating...

ive got shimano on my winter bike and campag on my race bike, and campag is better...

it's not hard, but for me it would be annoying to have to constantly move my hand. For you it may not be, which is why you don't consider it hard, which is fine. Like I say, if you like it, fine - i'm not saying it's absolutely worse - just for me it wouldn't be as good.

there you go - that may be an advantage for you, but since i hardly ever use the tops anyway it wouldn't be much use to me.

now then laddo, i've probably forgot more than you know!
I've spent more time trying out parts and deciding i don't like them than you've had hot dinners, and trying something else to know what I do and don't like, and i've got enough experience to know some things just wouldn't work for me without having tried them so I don't think I need to try it.

so why haven't you got campag on both...?

Sora are intended to be a leisure component not race. They are designed to be shifted from the hoods where most non race riders have their hands.
Sora are simplicity itself to operate from the hoods .

all you do is move your thumb back for a sencond... natural when your used to it...

the main factor which turns me off shimano is the hoods...there horrible...

although the new electric hoods are smaller like campag and alot better than the usual shimano hoods...

I much prefer Campag to ShimaNO!
