I've never had a puncture on my 2010 bought road bike, all tube replacements have happened due to valve failure caused by perishing seal and one toddler.

I went 4 years without one then took my road bike on some rough gravel.... building a cx/gravel bike now because despite the puncture it was a fun experience, and mtb's are too slow!

My new bike has 28mm Schwalbe Marathons on it. So far i've done 567 miles without a puncture which isn't much to some but the 23mm Schwalve Lugano's i've had on other bikes go down at the sight of a tiny thorn or tiny fragment of glass. The longest i've gone without a puncture is around 10 months which works out at around 3750 miles.

Mine are 25mm and 24mm wide. I guess it's based on how careful you are riding and if you regularly clean your tyres.
