After doing the school run, general child minding duties, catching up on 'jobs' I have nearly as much time to do what I want as I had when I was working.

The best thing about being retired for me is not having to keep your mouth shut anymore because you can't afford to lose you're job.The days of taking crap are over .

The worst thing about being retired is not being able to sleep and waking up at stupid hours. old habits die hard..

Are you sure that's when you will get it? When do you get your state pension?

I wondered why you asked that question but a quick Google enlightened me. In England you can claim your free travel pass when you reach the femal state pension age, which is 66 and 2 months for my age group, IIRC.

However, several people I know locally have got theirs at the age of 60. It would appear that local areas have some discretion as to the age at whcih they can be issued, or at least according to this:

It wouldn't surprise me if things changed before then though.
