Worst advice ever given by a fellow cyclist?

A co worker and cyclist sent me an email complaining that I was taking up to much road space and making drivers mad.

"The shoulders around here are good, if a bit narrow, but definitely rideable. We (cyclists) only need about 20 inches of roadway, the law says vehicles have to give us 3 feet of clearance..."

what is the worst piece of advice you have been given?

"Bike maintenance is easy: anyone can do it."

I followed that advice, read the linked article and watched the recommended YouTube video, and that's how I found myself experiencing total brake failure whilst going downhill, in the rain, wondering how on earth I was going to stop before reaching the junction...
