£500 new bike recommendations please

hi guys ive been looking at buying a giant defy 2 at a lbs reduced from £730 to £499 it seems a good buy, but was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions as to what other road bike £500 would be better spent on

The Cannondale Synapes have their fans, possibly somewhat more cash though

£499 for a Defy 2 sounds like a steal, I'd be very surprised if you can do better than that.
