I have entertained at a party for a centenarian, the old feller was still independently living in his own home, and cycled to the pub once a week! His son was 76.

He fell asleep during my show, though I am happy to report that he awoke again as soon as it was finished.

Not quite, but we had a relative (my Aunt's husband's family) who lived to 99.
Apparently when she was a kid, a fortune teller told her she'd live until she was 99, and this was a family story for many years beforehand, in fact, it had near myth like status and I think getting to 100 would have been a bit of a let down for her!

She was still living at home and looking after her other son who was Autistic (and in his '50s or '60s at the time), and her husband had only died a few years before aged 96. They were a remarkable couple actually and had so many stories as you can imagine!

My gran was 100 in the 14th June, she got her card from the queen and telegram from IDS, we had a little party in her block where she lives. It's was an amazing day. We got the local paper along too, although they made a hash of the facts and will be running another feature this week in way of apology

Enjoy it, you won't see many

My great-grand mother was 104 when she died but I was too young to remember her.

There have been quite a few others around these parts too. Must be something in the air that promotes long life.

At the present rate my bloody Mum (now 83) will still be around when she's 100.... she's as mad as a box of frogs and I've got a mortgage that needs paying off.

My own Nan had Alzheimer's and she ended up mad as a box of frogs but she was happy just drove everyone else nuts!!!

It might be the Guinness!!
Seriously though, I remember hearing somewhere of a study they did where they looked at a lot of people who were 100 or over to try and find a common factor, that they found that a lot of them regularly had a small dram of Whisky or some other equivalent, and also ate porridge.

You'd think the Scots would be in with a shout for the longevity awards, then, wouldn't you? Just how small is a wee dram in Glasgae?
