1950s lugless Claud Butler frame

big thanks to @biggs682 for coming across this little gem. Interesting multi coated paint job, but underneath all that is a really well preserved frame. Need to get it stripped and re painted but will leave this on the back burner until I get time. Year based upon serial number and the fact that Mr Butler started going bilaminated instead of the low temperature bronze welding process.

on a more serious note those forks are fantastic it did cross my mind to try them on the old Pollard

Back in the late sixties I had a CB lugless. I don't know how many different models of this type he built but from memory it looked like the one in the picture with the lamp bracket boss (Which I hacksawed off) on the fork. Mine was finished in purple till I at first hand painted it light blue then had it resprayed in the same colour. It did sterling service as my first TT bike and later as a fixed wheel winter hack.

Do you have a readout of the serial # on the BB shell or the fork steerer?
Frame could be any of the Jubilee/Coronation/International Club models (i.e. so-called welded frames, which mean fillet brazing by CB terminology) from the early to mid-fifties, though...

I had one of those, very nice quality frames but sadly the seat tube was cracked all the way round under the seat post clamp,if it was mine I’d strip the paint the polish and lacquer it to show the brazing off

Disaster after stripping, 2 small stress cracks in the forks as shown below. Frame is fine and has been powder coated bright white. I have a spare set of chrome forks to replace. Will post pictures soon

I had one of those pinched in 1969, mine was white at the time as well.

More fettling and changing of components. The gold anodised didn't fit with the 700c wheels. Didn't have any 27 1 1/4 wheels to fit rear spacing so changed back to the 700c wheels and bought new nutted tektro. New head badge, Shimano 600 rear derallieur, super custom crank, Brooks b17 saddle and Arret brake levers. Just need to get some cable clamps for the rear brake cable and pedals before I can take it for a spin.
