1960s Suntour DR Friction Control Levers on Down-tube

Advice needed .... To lubricate these control levers or not.
I've found recently that they tend not to stay where you put them.
The DR mech spring overcomes the friction.
I've tightened them up as much as I dare - It still moved when I didn't want it to.
I took one apart and it was greasy inside.
I've not greased it.
The bike went out of my possession some time ago to an idiot friend who did all sorts of nonsence.
Maybe he greased it.
My gut reaction says that the plastic washer inside is probably self-lubricationg.
Any advice please.

No need to lubricate; and/so don't. To what benefit?
The D rings need to be tightened sufficiently so they hold against the derailleur springs.

You've confirmed my thoughts.
I just wanted a second opinion before cleaning off the grease.
As you say .... No benefit.
