1st proper wet commute for a while

todays morning commute was first wet commute for a while , good job the old Carlton has full gaurds on .

just need some koolstop pads now so i can slow down a bit . even fitted some lights before riding in

I was all ready for a wet one this morning, so I set off fully prepared.

It didnt rain for the first 5 miles and I was cursing the BBC weather report because I was too hot in my jacket. Then it poured down for the last 7 miles and I was fine!!

It was my first wet commute with my new Trek this morning too, and my first experience braking in the wet

What are these koolstop pads of which you speak, as I reckon I could do with improving the wet-weather braking performance. My Trek has 105 brakes with cartridge pads, so I'm assuming I can buy direct-fit replacements and they should be easy to fit?

koolstops are great for older bikes , never tried on modern bikes but yes they are available look at simpson cycles website

My brakes were really, really poor in the wet this morning.
There's plenty of life left in the pads, but the braking response was just dreadful.

I use Swissstops on my single speed, which are brilliant and last forever. I had them on my double for a bit which ended up in me locking the back in the wet and getting a nice dose of gravel rash.

I'm sure you could make a pneumatic system that did ABS quite simply if it always actuated on heavy brake usage.

Chickened out this morning, took one look at the rain hissing down and reached for the car keys, I took a soaking yesterday, 38 miles back from Long Marston and it was hissing down all the way.

Finally used the Peugeot for the purpose I built it - Wet weather commuting.

I learnt that Clarks pads are absolutely horrendous in the wet. Pull the brakes as hard as you can, and the front end of the bike starts juddering (anyone know why this is? Weinmann calipers), eventually it stops! Maybe need to get some Koolstops.

Was a lovely surprise this morning.
I really enjoyed the commute both to and from work in the rain and howling wind.
Was fun and so few other cycle commuters...fair weather fiends

got a soaking this morning too... no commuters on my route, a few people 'walking' their dogs though which was frustrating!!
