1x11 road bike set-up

I got a Planet-X Full Monty, it's Sram Apex 1x11 and so far I'm pretty impressed. The gear change is good, the brakes are good, the bike is a tad heavy but probably to be expected at the price point. I've fitted mudguards and rack. I definitely like not having a front mech, makes keeping it clean a lot simpler, and less to worry about. Mind you I'm in Cambridge, so we don't have any massive hills.

It came built and they had done a very good job, everything tightened correctly, grease where you would expect it. One slight downside was cable ties to secure hoses rather than C-Clips, but I fixed that.

Will the rival 22 right hand lever have enough pull to get up to a 42T rear with the long cage mech?

That's not how it works, Phil. The cable only has to pull the derailleur a certain distance sideways for each gear change. It doesn't matter how big or small the cog is that the chain is moving onto - the mech's design takes care of wrapping the chain to cope with that.
