2 bikes down in 1 week

First my new road wheels fail and need sending off to Italy, so I get the hybrid dusted off and ready for use for a few weeks - next thing I know the hybrid frame has snapped - it's only 3 years old.

Down to the final bike - the MTB; fingers crossed for tomorrow mornings' ride. Not going to risk the club run on knobblie tyres so just a quick 30 miles on the country lanes mixing with the other tractors!

Gotta ask why the wheels need to go back to Italy.

And what the hybrid was/what it was made of?

If it's a decent company does the frame by any chance have an extended guarantee you can draw on?

I think even my wobbly Dahon had a 5 year frame guarantee for the frame

the frame was aluminium alloy - 7005 I think, and yes it appears to have a lifetime warranty for the original owner so assuming the inspection doesn't suggest any mis-treatment (which there is no reason it would) it should be replaced under warranty.
The wheels are Italian made and the shop has sent them back to the UK importer who may or may not need to send them back to Italy - still waiting to hear back on that one

it snapped at the join between the top tube and seat tube - this junction probably carries a lot of stress from the rider weight loading - anyway, it should be made strong enough but not in this case

thanks for the kind offer but I'm hoping to get my wheels sorted within the next 3 weeks or so, and I can survive on the MTB until then

cor strewth am i the only person reading this who's thinking what on earth can go wrong with a wheel that merits it being sent to Italy?!
I'm no expert but the worst thing I'm aware of ever needing doing on a wheel is a full rebuild (Spokes/Rim/Hub), which isn't that hard

With the state of the roads around here those wheels would spend far more time in Italy than "Accy"!
