Is that a gravel climb ? a cobbled climb ? What ?

Edit:- Info already given.
Cobbles that are treacherous when wet, and rain is forecast. Chance of a lottery.

The full Danish squad for Rwanda

Men:
  • Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek)
  • Anders Foldager (Team Jayco AlUla)
  • Anthon Charmig (XDS Astana Team)
  • Christopher Juul Jensen (Team Jayco AlUla)
  • Michael Valgren (EF Education – EasyPost)
  • Asbjørn Hellemose (Team Jayco AlUla)
  • Mikkel Honoré (EF Education – EasyPost)
  • Casper Pedersen (Soudal Quick-Step)
  • Alexander Kamp (Intermarché - Wanty) - replacement for Valgren
Women:
  • Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (CANYON/SRAM zondacrypto)
  • Solbjørk Anderson (Uno-X Mobility)
I think Denmark should have been able to take 5 women riders.

No u23 or Jnrs are going for either sex, and no entries in the TT. It seems a shame They didn't just pack a TT bike for Skjelmose as I think he could have done pretty well on that parcours, though he's still racing Luxembourg at the moment.

Valgren is a loss, he's got rock-solid worlds credentials with multiple top-tens and a bronze in '21, and well suited to the parcours. He pulled out saying his form just wasn't there and he didn't want to waste a space.

A strong squad through all categories is expected at the Euros.

I’ve put it down as a spoiler thread just in case but just general chat for now. It’s obviously quite a momentous event being the first in Africa and potentially the hardest ever route.

The GB team has been announced and from what I can see there are no women in the elite road race with Henderson being the only selection but only doing the TT. Am I missing something or, if not, why aren’t there any in the elite road race?

Decent looking men’s team with both Onley and Pidcock as potential medalists.

I’m looking forward to these worlds. I too was initially grumpy about the lack of elite women but having listened to some podcasts I kind of get it. I believe the trip is very expensive and many counties are taking smaller teams due to cost and we don’t really have any elite women likely to medal. Georgi is injured. However we do have Backstedt AND Ferguson in the U23, both of whom could win. It makes sense to me.

Isn’t Zoe down to only do the TT?

Yes.

Interesting interview with Zoe B on cycling weekly. Sounds like she opted not to do the road race and the elite TT.

So, watching the early starters in the women's TT, and I see some of the African riders are on road bikes, one didn't even have tri-bars on. Just something we should probably think about when we complain in Europe how expensive it is to take a team to Rwanda

It’s not really on for big nations to send reduced teams on cost grounds. I can’t recall what entries were like when it was in Oz or Richmond but I can’t imagine it was much cheaper. Then all the other years where it is in Europe no-one considers the cost for teams travelling from developing nations. If we want cycling to become more global events like this need supporting. It’s also odd to find money to send junior riders but not to send a decent sized elite team.
