I think he should ride the Tour, but with (privately) no expectations for GC. Then at least it gets some of the hype out of the way and there's no disappointment if (and probably when) he doesn't succeed

Try telling that to an ambitious 19 year old though

It's not the ambitious 19 year old that's the problem, it's French media. It wouldn't be such a problem if Decathlon had any other GC rider of note that he could ride in support of so "he's just learning the ropes", but everyone knows he's better than Riccitiello and Gall etc.

I think they were intending to take a sprint based team with Olav Kooij this year (signed this season) but he's had a virus and hasn't raced yet. I suppose they could take a sprint team plus Seixas with no support ("just try and stay in contact as long as you can") but as soon as he needed help and there wasn't any there the team would be savaged.

The moment he starts the Tour - whichever year- the pressure will be immense. Better to let him ride his first GT outside France

This is a cartoon in L'Equipe today "How far can Seixas go?"

Landa has abandoned the Basque Country, which is hardly surprising.
More surprising is that Isaac del Toro has also left the race.
Ah, he was involved in a nasty crash with Ben Tullet amongst others.
