Anyhow, a UAE rider got his first pro win, but it wasn’t Rui Olivera, but Adrià Pericas.

They ignored the graphics, so had no idea that the climb was that long or had so many cobbled sections.
I had Kirby doing Norway, so I have some sympathy.

Eh, that was good from Pericas, he had to go for it, the only problem from a UAE viewpoint was him setting the OTL limit for the day that 3 teammates couldn't match.
Giami, Johnsen,and young Freier all OTL'd today.
Was a good stage though..

Meanwhile at the Nations Cup Hungary Men's Junior race the young men have shattered speed cycling records I think if PCS times are correct. The winners time was 1: 24: 59 for 86.2km giving a speed of
60.859 km/hrs....
I know juniors are getting fast these days but nah not having that, there must be something PCS have not displayed. Even Noval ain't that fast..

Discussing this now by Hutch and Cox, during today’s stage.
Apparently the same thing happened earlier in the race.
UAE didn’t read the communique, which takes precedence.

Oh dear, it sounds like there had been a tragic incident but no announcement until official one.

Apparently Fin Tarling has been killed, having been hit by a car. Rushed to hospital but tragically he passed away.
Jez Cox can’t make the announcement. Clearly very, very upset.
News is minimal at yet as nothing is being reported beyond the race organisers official communiques.

A head-on with a car coming the other way, according to 3rd/4th hand reports coming out of Portugal, along with a photo of Tarling's smashed up bike (front wheel rim in two bits, head tube detached from rest of frame, bars detached from steerer, down tube broken at BB end - i.e. all the hallmarks of a front-end impact).

It happens.

We had speeding motorbikes getting into the race convoy at the weekend despite the best efforts of the vehicles at the rear. Fortunately there were no collisions but it was a bit too close for comfort.
