Went for the 27 in the end as even the lbs said a longer chain would be best for a 28, and at that point i might as well get a complete mech, chain and cassette as a deal.
Feels better but will need to hit the hills to see.
This thread made me think about my smallest chainring which had 30 teeth. The old one was worn out so I have now replaced it with a 26. I now have a luxury 26/28 climbing gear for those nasty 20+% climbs in Yorkshire and Lancashire!
