I have the chance to take 3 months (April, May, June) out in 2011? Any suggestions of a route outside europe ? (Happy to fly to the start and fly back from the finish) I like to do a fair amount of mileage, am happy on paved or unpaved (will be using drop bar bike, cyclocross prob and travelling light). Dont like rain or cold btw!!! - have looked at the usual sites (cgoab etc)... would welcome any suggestions esp from anyone who has toured spring/early summer (I realise this is pretty open ended, just looking for ideas)

All the best guys & gals

Why outside europe? Andalucia and southern Italy would be absolutely perfect at that time of year.

The world is your oyster, as they say, I once did the Nile route from Cairo to Ugandu, had it exciting moments, and terrifing moments.
Singapore to Northern Thailand, that was warm and exciting at times.
Singapore to Hong Kong, well I started that route but got shot at in Cambodia, and refused entry into Vietnam, unless I could find a group to ride with.
Since been back to Vietnam, and had a great time once I got get used to the traffic.

A few eeks ago I picked up a copy of Bettina Selby book Riding to Jerusalem, now that looks a do-able trip, so now giving that some thoughts.
Just some ideas

I've done some of it and found it boring.
P.S those who plan to cross Canada using this route "Following the Coast from North West to South" should check a map before they leave

My Suggestions

S.America at that time of year is mid winter, so places like Bolivia, Ecuador etc will be V.cold (and outside the tourist season)

UK to Turkey. Down via the Rhein and Danube, back via the Greek isands and Italy.
OR
A big loop through India (including Tibet/Nepal ?)
OR
UK to Morocco. Down by France/Spain, back via Italy, Germany
OR
Thailand to Singapore

Have to watch out for the bandits on the Thai/malaysia bordor, they have a habit of running cyclist down with there vans, best to travel down the east side of the countries once you leave Bankok

What about the pacific highway, leaving Vancouver in May and heading South ending up in Baja? - Any thoughts on this route at this time of year?
