I'm taking my eldest, and two friends, to their first concert at the O2 Academy in Oxford tomorrow night. Start at 1730hrs and finishes at 2200hrs, so I'll have about 4 hours to kill.

I'll take a book but any good bikeshops or bookshops near there that open late?

so I'll have about 4 hours to kill.

Oh, I don't think the people of Oxford will like it if you go around doing that.......

Beeline and Blackwells (biggest bike and bookshop) both shut at 6.00pm, lots of good pubs but I guess you don't want to roll back at 10pm tanked up.

I'd invite you over to admire my bikes but I'm away this weekend. xx(

Go to the gig, man! Do some Dad-dancing!
(as I have been banned from doing, after clearing the floor, Brent-style, at a recent wedding xx( )

Museum of Modern Art is shut until April sometime - that would have been a nice visit Al. I saw The Boyle Family there - one of the most interesting exhibitions....

Actually, there is a nice bar on Silias St. - called 'Le Pidoptera' - which you should like as you are often found hanging around butterfly bars.

Enjoy the book. In four hours you would nearly finish Harlen Coben's latest - excellent adventure read 'Long Lost'.

Have fun! xx(

Hey McB, I'd join you for a pint or summat but I shall be enjoying Mrs FF singing along with the rest of the local Choral society, so I can't make it.
The O2 is in the Cowley Road which is an interesting stroll in itself, you can look in Beeline's window and their Cycloanalysts the Giant dealer too. I'd then go fo a stroll around the town/collages, maybe there's a walking/bus tour.
Pubs: The Kings Arms at the end of Broadstreet is nice (Youngs) and around the corner near the bridge of sighs is a narrow alley leading to the Turf Tavern which is worth a look.
There are some nice eateries in the Jerico area of town (just a walk from Broad Street), I like the Big Bang sausage place in Walton Street and others in Little Clarendon Street... there's also Walton Street cycles just a few hundred yards further.

Avoid George street, it's bit chavvy/crappy. But if the weather is nice just wandering around the colleges and the little pubs and places etc is very pleasant.

Sorry I can't be your guide.

Oh God, founding member of the Sad Dads Club:ohmy: beers are out guys I'm driving. I'll probably have a mooch around the colleges until light runs out, it's many years since I've been to Oxford.

I do like the idea of bike in back, shame we don't have a people carrier anymore. It's a Honda Civic now, no problem with bike in when rear seats are down but that may miff No1 sons friends a little:biggrin: I can see some experimentation tomorrow, see how much I need to dismantle bike to fit it in. Take both wheels off and it's got to be feasible.

This would almost be as embarassing as me going to the concert, I could do the drive in full lycra:evil:

Make sure you have enough fuel for the return trip, MacB. It can be embarrassing filling up when dressed like that. Umm... allegedly.
