I first came across a junction like that while in a taxi in America. I asked the taxi driver how it worked and he said (slowly) that the first vehicle got to go first.

I then asked what happened if two cars arrived at the same time, he thought for what seemed a very long time and then said "yeah well that could be a problem"!! It still makes me smile when I think about it.

Sorry Paul, I don't follow.

So, what, you all just sit there in case you cause an accident?

I don't think it's even a problem that needs to be discussed.
Me neither, I don't know why you think anybody regards it as a problem; just interested in the psychology behind the thing working.

I like this type of junction. It takes away the rule of the road and makes people use common sense. The way I play those junctions is that the biggest usually has the right of way unless they give way to you.

I am nearly 60 so it must work.

It's not that much different than arriving at a cross roads in the side roads at the same time as another vehicle in the opposite direction wanting to turn across each other - lots of communicating! Or a roundabout where everyone arrives at the same time? Usually the most assertive/aggressive goes first!
