4000miles, 8days, non-stop. Surely not?

So doing my usual road biking news search I came across 4 amateur cyclists looking to cycle 4000miles in 8days from Seattle to key west, non-stop. Is this even possible??? I found this article and a video trailer on them. What's your thoughts on if this is achievable

And they have a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/point2pointcycle

Interested in what everyone's opinion is on this? What sort of training would need to be done for an event like this?

Thanks

I found this article and a video trailer on them. What's your thoughts on if this is achievable. They are doing it in memory of their friend who lost his life last year whilst serving in the marines. Hope they can do it as it is so inspirational. I've donated at www.justgiving.com/pointtopoint

Just scanning the link on velouk it says "Cycling the Divide, will see the men cycle 112 miles a day each in just 6 hours". So it's a relay with 6 hours on and 18 hours off, which equates to an average speed of 18.66 mph. Tough going!

Unless they're doing this as a relay, I'd say it's not possible.
You can't go for 8 days with no sleep, and you can't average over 20mph for 8 days straight.

That'a a though one! 6 hours a day at 18.5 mph average, with a fair bit of climbing. I'm guessing they're not going to do the 6 hours in one stint, but I don't know. I think it's doable, with the right training, logistics and support, but that is one big challenge. Mike Hall's round the world record involved an average of 200 miles a day for 91 days, we don't know the average speed, but it must have left time to sleep and eat.

The article makes clear it is between them, stating 116 miles a day each over 6 hours.

Just been reading up on it further, they are doing it as a relay with each rider cycling in 3 hour stints. Still seems pretty intense to me. One guy has never cycled before but decided to do the challenge in memory of his best friend who died whilst serving for the marines. The other guys appear to have the mental determination as when I googled ten I found a link saying they ran 2000miles in 75days in 2010 and last year cycled 1,100 miles in 10days via 4 of the tour de France steepest inclines. It sounds hard ore if u ask me. Cycling with minimal sleep is going to be tough going. I say good luck to them as it appears it's for charity. Mile hall and tommy Goodwin are total legends - guess it shows anything can be done if you put ur mind to it! Wonder what sort of training they are undertaking

Yeah seems pretty intense doesn't it, especially as I'm guessing they will have to sleep in the support vehicle. Looks like they are cycling in pods - 2 riders split the 12 hours between them with 3 hour stints. One of the guys has never cycled before and te other appear to have ran 2000miles in 75days. Ot looks like they are doing it for a charoty in memory of one of their friends. I guess anything is possible if u look at mike Hall and tommy Goodwin. Wonder what sort of training they are undertaking?

Yes as I am new to forums as wasn't sure what was the best one to post in and wanted to chat to people about how viable a challenge this was. Looking to do a challenge myself one day but obviously not of the same magnitude
