Well I didn't expect that from the ATM at local Tesco Extra (the other £50 in 20s and a tenner). I got 4 fivers from Barclays last night too. What is the world coming to!!!

I have only ever seen £50 notes in photos!

As for cash and 'what is the world coming to'...

I used to collect loose change in a huge jar. I'd wait until I had about £30 worth then count it out into coin bags and cash it in. These days, I do so few transactions in cash that I will probably never fill the jar again! I was wondering what to do with the coins that I had already collected and then I had an idea - I put about £1.50 in 1ps, 2ps and 5ps into each of multiple coin bags and always carry one bag with me when I go shopping. If there is a good busker playing on my route I donate the bag of coins to them.

I have a massive old roses jar full of 1ps, 2ps, 5ps, weighs a ton (ish) so at some point need to drag it to the bank. I think my local NatWest has a counting machine for customers that doesn’t stiff you for a fee like coin star. I can’t be arsed to bag them up! Could be a hundred quid to change for slipperly plastic 50s

I asked AI to show the 'real' me.
Try Switzerland.

Asked the ATM for CHF200 (Currently £185) and got a single note. I needed cash to take the local bus into Montreux. Luckily all the public transport was free so no need to ask for change.

Had a 500Euro note once many years ago from a Money Exchange. The local Mas y Mas (think Co-Op style supermarket) happily took it.

larger notes-> fewer visits by cash-in-transit operator to replenish-> lower operating cost
Higher value note, fewer people making large withdrawals. Increases the likelihood of the machine not being used. And not many places willing to take the note.
Also increases the number of notes in a machine, from three to four. Increasing operating costs.
