No joke, CJ: alternative meaning. Colloquial meaning is daydreaming. In Italian anyway, dunno about Indian, Nihal can tell us I guess.Am I missing a joke and it has an alternative meaning? Or am I seeing jokes where there are none?
We also say: "you are asleep on you feet" to mean somebody present in body, not in spirit
