No not Satan's mobile, but the date i left school. There has been some water under the bridge since then. Some of it choppy,we we got through that.My parents allowed me one week off, then i had to find a job.No qualifications so a job out of the Yorkshire Evening Post,in those days that's where you found them.
First job third sales Barratts Shoes,Commercial Street,Leeds.I hated it had to work till 17-30 on a Saturday, thus missing Leeds United, and the 1966 World Cup.packed that in sharpish.Next job an office boy ha ha seventeen i must have been the oldest in the country,British Relay tv company, rentals and that sort of thing.
Going nowhere with that job. Then my dad a decorator was really ill,and when he got better he asked me to work for him,he could not do the donkey work.Well around 1970-71 work was scarce, and December that year we finished a kitchen and shared £27 profit between three of us,£9 Christmas week.Well in Jan 1971 there was a Postal strike and after it was over they began taking on staff.I joined in Jan 1972,i stayed there till i took along with many many others vol redundancy.I would have been a mug not to.Tax free lump sum ,loads of it and a pension.Twelve years later still retired and doing voluntary work when i feel like it.
1966 it is a long long time ago.

That’s interesting, I also left school in that same year. I’m the same age as you. My first job was in a laundry where I operated the huge spin dryers. Whatever happened to sending your clothes to the laundry?
I won’t bore you all with the rest of my work history.

I would've been five and a half, and just remember World Cup Willie. And that's all I do remember, though I presume I watched the final.
