We need to take china's advice and have one child per family, and then have to pay a massive amount of money to poorer families in order to have another.

We also need guns in this country so more people can be killed by each other, just how nature should be. Not using all these pathetic battons and pepper sprays that the wimpy police use in this country.

Well that did happen with Bird flu but look how thats just deteriorated.

We really need a world wide (or the over populated parts) pandemic or some sort of catastrophic disaster.

Er no. Bird Flu was tiny compared with a proper epidemic.

And as for the guns idea, you're actually nuts aren't you?

I know it's a while since my Biology A level, but I'm sure it's not a hand I'd need.....

Because a Turkey Baster just isn't romantic enough, is it?

Alien invasion would be helpful; a worlwide plague, or whatever to reduce the numbers. Tis about 6 billion top heavy (in my personal opinion, just that, and it is just my opinion.

Yes, why is there never a decent plaque when you need one?

A child in the west uses up the same resources as up to 9 children in the 3rd world, so, an average family here is about the equivalent of 18 - 27 people living in mud huts elsewhere

So that means if each of them gave just 0.00003p THIS would have been sorted by now
In fact the fund is about half way now, so that means it's now down to 0.0000015p

ANY help still massively appreciated,

Of course!

Incidentally, World poverty is the same, if we were all to pay a little bit, then it could be solved (and put the so called poverty charities out of business instead of just contributing to the problem).... but then we would have even more of a resource shortage as the world population becomes more westernised, so.... umm.... what to do?

Unfortunately it isn't going to happen unless a situation straight out of a Science Fiction film arises. Unfortunately.

It's not impossible. Viruses and other diseases mutate. Get a particularly virulent one, and given the amount people travel these days, infection could spread very rapidly. The question would be whether suitable drugs could be deployed quickly enough. With anti-biotic resistance on the increase, it's just a bacteria/drug company arms race...

Plus of course, meteorites have happened before, and will again. I don't think there is a credible defence against such a thing.

It's true that the best thing you can do to control your carbon footprint is not to have kids.

I'm doing my part for the future of humanity by not making humans.

If that's your logic, you could always make the ultimate gesture and do your bit for the carbon cycle by planting yourself under a tree. I'm sure my children will be grateful for your sacrifice ;)

Radio 4 this morning Seemingly things are not so bad Although population is rising the rate is slowing. Women are having on average HALF the number of children they were having .. er.. some time ago (can't remember .. like a generation or 50 years!)

So people are choosing NOT to have so many kids because of lifestyle not force

I don't think anyone should take the moral high ground in either having or not having kids. Just do what you feel is best for you

But we do need kids
People are living longer Of all the people over 65 who have ever been lived throughout history - half of them are still alive now!

That may be true for the western world but the educated in developing countries still want to have large family's like their parents and grandparents had.

If you don't have kids, your existence is futile.

If we stopped growing crops to feed animals which are in turn fed to humans and lived on a vege diet, we'd be able to sustain a far larger population.

Just because the population is far larger than it was 100 or a 1000 years ago doesn't mean the planet is 'full'.

There's loads of wide open spaces on the planet, therefore plenty more room for babies.

Slightly overpriced - just knock £0.04 off it and The Price is Right!

I watched an episode of Star Trek once which featured a planet whose occupants had bred themselves to the point where it was standing room only - what a nightmare!

Yes, there are loads of open spaces on the planet and let's try and keep them that way if you don't mind! I don't want to have to clamber over your kids to get to the mountains, ta very much.

If you don't have kids, your existence is futile.
Infertile people might as well top themselves then. And singletons. As for infertile singletons - might as well line them up against a wall and shoot them because they are just wasting resources which could be allocated to the important people who breed!

As for those bloody perverts who who actually choose not to have kids ...!

yup, with no lineage to carry on, what's the point? We are after all animals, built to feed and breed and nothing else.
