Does anyone know where I might get a 7 speed freewheel with a ratio like 12/25 or 11/25 for a non-astronomical price? They seem to be very unusual. I want a lower bottom gear without relinquishing the top end - most of the 7 speed stuff I've found is 13-26 or 14-28.

I'm now realising I should probably have gone for a compact chainset to go with the 12-21 on my current project but live and learn...

Tried your lbs?

my hybrid had a 12-32 on it and they made a 11-28 up for about £20, this is a cassette though. If its a screw on freewheel it might be harder to find .

I currently have a 14-28 on my commuter and its fine for that but i have a std 52/42 front .

12-24 on ebay .........

It's a proper screw-on freewheel. That 12-24 would have done (I saw it earlier) but unfortunately I found it after the auction ended. I will have to ask around the shops.

This is for the Bianchi which is replacing the hi-ten Cilo monster I keep at home. The Cilo has 52/42 and a 14/28 which is fine for climbing but I'd like a higher top end as I've spun out the 52/14 and I want to best my top speed of 50.9mph. ;)

Problem is I want a bigger top gear than that, so at least a 12t small cog.

Time is running short before I'm taking the bike home so for now it looks like I'll have 52/39 and a 12/21 which is going to make climbing 'interesting'.
