A bit muddy today

Today's ride down NCN1 to Thorpe Thewles was surprisingly muddy.

I avoided the worst bit along the boardwalks past Shotton by using the B road through several County Durham former pit villages.

But the bike still got into a bit of a state:

But out of dirt, came there cleanliness:

Saturdays ride in to that Naaarf*ck was a tad muddy in places and combined with the previous afternoon and evening rain meant there was a couple of loose rear end moments plus some flint collection(no punctures on the open paves though).

Bike did get a tad dirty;

'tis a bit cleaner now.

True but not on a sub 7kg road bike;it was a last hurrah for the Helium really will probably be semi-retired for the winter,the 'guards shod Icarus will perform winter club run and other non-commute rides over the winter.

Standard look for an MTB surely;be more impressive if it was a road bike.

@Pale Rider - I quite enjoyed that bit along the boardwalks the only time I rode it, and I had narrower tyres than you. Mind you, it was August.

My bike is looking a bit filthy after some tracks in the Moors last Thursday, especially with the rain hitting at the highest point in the route between Farndale and Bransdale...

I've just had to replace the chain and rear brake pads. I'm not sure about the front brakes either TBH.

@Pale Rider - I quite enjoyed that bit along the boardwalks the only time I rode it, and I had narrower tyres than you. Mind you, it was August.

The path is still fairly sound underneath the coating of mud so it's not exactly hazardous, but for someone with my modest bike handling skills riding it can be a bit sketchy.

My mate Chris who is up and down there regularly tells me the yobbos occasionally remove a board or two from the boardwalk, which is no doubt classed as a jolly jape in Shotton.

He's always spotted the gap soon enough, although he nearly missed seeing a missing board one winter when there was a lot of snow on the ground.
