I know that, if baking Camembert it has to be the correct type BUT..........can** you eat baking Camembert with crackers ie as you do with Brie.
**by that I mean is it pleasant?

you are much mistaken, a camembert is a camembert is a camembert.

bake it, eat with crackers, roll it in honey and nuts..... the choice is yours.

*other soft surfaced ripened cheese exist.

Unwrap it and put it back in the wooden outer (if it came in one) Cut a cross in the skin and give it 20 minutes Gas Mk6.
Dip crusty bread, crackers, bread sticks etc in it..

I don't want to bake it! I want it on crackers or with fresh bread.
I nearly bought one today but the box clearly said it was for baking.

Just eat it, but make sure it’s ripe.
Chalky Camembert is horrid (although personally ripe, it’s too pongy for me, I prefer Brie…Cambazola my fave)

Cambazola.......a new one on me.

German blue brie, apparently around since 1900...so it is even older than @Dave7 ;)

been around since 1980 ish and the portmanteau should tell you its not based on brie :okay:

....although to be fair brie and camembert are pretty similar

Yep, you've got to make sure it's ripe whatever you do with it. Brie and camembert really do need to squish.

Generally, I buy one now to eat in two or three weeks' time - I just let them ripen slowly in the fridge. If you go to a good cheesemonger, you'll be asked how soon you'll be wanting to eat it.

BTW, the Tesco brie from their festive range is a very good buy - it's £3 for a 470g wheel, which works out half the price (nearly) of the standard stuff. I bought one on Tuesday and it'll be ready in time for Xmas :hungry: The little brie with truffle they have is also very nice.
