I actually enjoy riding on my own much of the time - thinking/daydreaming time, own pace, stop when I like...Matt, really, you do need to find a riding buddy. Finding one was the best thing that ever happened to me as a cyclist; luckily we are the same age and fitness (well, he's a bit faster most of the time) and we both enjoy the same kind of rides and coffee shops. We also have similar work and family commitments so there's no bad feeling if one of us can't make a ride or is under time constraints. There's something sad about a young cyclist going out alone and mooching around feeling lonely and having a buddy to egg you on means you'll get out more and enjoy your rides more, not to mention that you can look out for each other in the event of an accident or breakdown.
Is there a club around your area that you can join?

yep half term! you see my school is special they don't have the same holiday and term times as most schools, apparently it is so that ferry and plane etc travel is cheaper during our holidays as they are not the same as most school holidaysHalf term i think![]()
Solo riding means you can stop and nip into a field if you happen to spot an especially attractive sheep....
not so much sleeping in a field full of sexy sheep for me! but i do like riding solo it means no one can get annoyed at my whistling and talking to myself! it's the reason i get annoyed at hiking with my bro's and my mum because they walk too slow ad take well too many breaks! my older bro always makes up sweet bags for each of us and by the second day of a 3 day hike everyone is begging me for mine as i hardly touch them due to not being a huge fan of sweetsI actually enjoy riding on my own much of the time - thinking/daydreaming time, own pace, stop when I like...
I was actually staying at Capel Curig at the time, so I cycled that stretch of road both ways. I went anticlockwise, so only the short pull up from Pen-y-Gwryd to Pen-y-Pass, then whizz down into Llanberis - but on the other hand, quite a long drag back up to PyG near the end of the ride!Looks great - clockwise or anticlockwise? Any which way does the wind usually blow in Llanberis pass? I'd want to ride down that with a following wind.
Ah, I was there a lot earlier than that. Got there at about 10 and left at 1.Did you go yesterday? I was there myself, by car though, checking out the route for the Tour De Mon in August. Same route as you did. I was there at about 2pm.
I've done the climbs on that route but not the top half. So I started in Llanberis went over the pass, went down to Beddgelert and then came back up and over to Capel Curig before going back up over the pass and down to Llanberis. Even though I was going back on myself, it doesn't matter in that environment, it's all lovely. Here's a suggestion for you @Matthew_T - starts from the Pen-y-Gwryd hotel (or some laybys further back along the road to Capel Curig) and goes around Snowdon. I did this on a Friday in spring a couple of years ago - no particular traffic problems. It's about 33 miles as I've plotted it - possibly a bit more up involved than your Anglesey ride (3600 ft according to bikehike). Or you might find it easier to drive right round the A55 and come in from the Bangor direction and start in the top left corner...
