The charge was dangerous driving too, not careless driving. I’m surprised it was only 2 years. I think that would be increased if the family appealed. So sad to lose someone in such tragic circumstances whatever the sentence.

The driver was not going out with the intention of killing someone and was not drunk he made a severe error of judgement which resulted in the death of a person. A year in custody would be a life changing amount to any "normally" law abiding citizen I am sure.
The driver was on the wrong side of the road, which I think is against the law. If he was there through incompetence he should not have a driving licence. if he was there deliberately then he intentionally did a thing which caused the death of another person and should be punished properly.

He will have certainly lost all semblance of a normal life he had prior to his conviction, and gained a criminal record a custodial sentance what ever the length has a serious and life changing effect whether it is one or two years long is mostly irrelevant. I agree it seems short for the loss of the life but I am sure it will have had the desired effect on the convicted driver.

I know that bit of road and i use it all the time..
dark with no lighting..and a very sharp bend with a deep drainage ditch either side, its quite narrow too.
the sentence is mild as often is the case..
terrible miss judgement on the part of the driver and he will regret this for ever..
just cutting that corner as most do every day has ruined his life and cost the life of a talanted young man and caused deep sadness and despair to his family.
i do think the year in jail will be very harsh for the driver and he may need many yrs of help coming to terms with that death..
the road is one that will continue to cause accidenrts..its a bad un..
the North Bank has claimed many lives over the years ,its just before this bit of road and the route into Peterborough from Whittlesey.
anyone local should know to take care when using them...

maximum sentence for death by careless and death dangerous is the same, 14 years, so it matters little with which he is charged.

And as the sentence less than 5 years they'll automatically only serve half...
