You get a very steep mountain just after Geiranger and a big mountain over Trollstigen. I did the Trollstigen to Geiranger route the opposite way back in 1990. It is called the Golden Route because of it's extreme beauty and vertical climbs. You, ie your muscles will find out why..........

I would suggest the detour around Hardanger if you have a spare day or the detour over Hamlagro if you would like to avoid the biggest tunnels. Hamlagro is very steep for 2 miles and then gives up the resistance and you get a very nice experience 'till you reach Voss. It was one of the nicest surprises I got during my Oslo-Bergen-Sogndal trip in 1991.
