Still on a high from completing the Vatternrundan in Sweden at the weekend. 300km in 9hrs 45 moving, 10hrs, 20 on the clock with stopping times.

But suffered a salutory lesson this morning on the ride into work.

While waiting at some traffic lights I noticed a woman in a Range Rover engrossed in her texting. The lights changed and the van in front of me pulled away, I pulled away and looked across to see if she had noticed the lights change -- she hadn't. Ha ha, I thought typical 4x4 driver on the phone.
I looked round just in time (not) to notice that the van in fron of me had slammed its brakes on so I slammed into the back of it, chin first.
The impact was hard enough to bend my brakes on the handlebars ( just moved I think) and lock the brakes but not loud enough, apparently, for the van driver to notice and he sped off while I nursed my sore chin and got my bike back in working order. Thanks Interior Design. The rest of the cars manoeuvered around me but a girl crossing the road took the time to ask me if I was OK.

Self inflicted that one, but I think I have to take responsibility for it. No major damage obvious but my jaw is a bit on the sore side.
Today's lesson - don't be a smug git, just watch the road.

ouch, hard lesson indeed.
must admit i've almost done this myself!
same deal moving off at some lights, turning left behind a 4x4, see hairdressers car in the right hand lane with a woman paying far to much attention to her phone then the green light and almost went into the back of the 4x4, traffic was pretty stationary after the left turn
thankfully i wasn't going too fast and pulled around it.

Oops! Could have been worse. Rest assured that woman is likely to do something more serious to her 4x4. Hope no one else is involved when she does.

Impressive riding on the Vatternrunden ,btw.

I nearly crashed the other day because I was looking at a girl's legs.
You'd think I would have matured a bit by now.

Good work.

I locked up my bike this morning to stop just before the back of a van, distracted by keeping up with a hot girl driving.

It only shows you're healthy having taking heed of these distractions, or at least that's what I tell myself.

I'll never forget the guy I saw cycling down Villiers Ave when I was a student 'dahn sarf', years ago. Bum up, head down he was going at a fair clip and somehow failed to see the bright red Post Office van parked up at the bottom of the hill, near the junction where the Duke Of Buckingham is...
