I know you will all have been worried sick that I haven't posted until now. I didn't post last night because I was absolutely knackered it was getting a bit late. ;) Don't worry, I got home safe & sound, had a bath, something to eat and watched a bit of telly before having an early night.:tired:

I thoroughly enjoyed my first ride with you guys and enjoyed this one even more. I suppose it will be memorable because it was my first century (106 miles on my cateye and similar on Ride with GPS, so I've got a good margin of error) but the same ride would not have been anywhere near as pleasurable without your company. There was also the added bonus of meeting Svendo and Gordon (who, if his choice of forum name is anything to go by, spends half his time telling lies )

Thanks again to Colin for organisation and route selection (I think the Padiham greenway is excellent). I hope all repairs and recoveries are effected in good time for you all to enjoy your rides next week-end.

Shaun, I hope whatever caused your cancellation has been sorted.

Hope to see you all again soon.

Congratulations on that century!

Steve H and Potsy seem to think that the main route was 59 miles but Bikely makes it 57.5. I'll split the diifference and call it 58!

Well, Gordon might not have been slow, but he certainly wasn't young! Mind you, he wasn't really that old either ... Perhaps he should change his CycleChat name to NippyNowButYouShouldHaveSeenMeWhenIWasYounger? ;)

Just remembered I put a new front tyre on last week and haven't recalibrated my computer, will do a roll out and measure again this week, that just might make up the difference, plus I'm thinking of little extra bits we did like a lap of the picnic centre car park on the way back, me coming back down the hill when Steve's spoke broke, and a couple of laps of the market car park to test my gears out before the start.
Glad everybody made it home safely (have we heard from oldnslow yet?)
Set a new slow speed record for me on the ride, at one point I looked down at the speedo and was doing 2.9mph up one of the grovelling climbs

ps-have you done that picture yet Colin? ;)
pps-nice to meet you again Svendo, though you could do with losing a few lbs now we have oldnslow on board, he makes you look chunky

Not sure I can be dragged into this raging debate. I clearly stated at the end of the ride that I didn't know the distance, because I'd had a bit of a problem with my Garmin.

I remember this distinctly because I had a rather embarrassing moment with the Garmin on the ride. I'd been doing some fettling with it the day before to make sure it was set up correctly. Whilst doing one of the screaming descents yesterday I glanced down at the Garmin. The figures I saw were a bit confusing. They said I was flying along at 0.0 mph and that my cadence was 240 pedals per minute. The cogs in my brain began to turn, before a dawning realisation that I may have mixed up the magnets and receivers between speed / cadence sensor and the magnets on pedal and spoke!

Oops, that's right!

I've been feeling slightly fuzzy-headed since halfway through the ride. When that pedestrian at the end of the Greenway asked me where we wanted to go, I had a complete mental blank and couldn't remember 'Rose Grove'. I also remember calling you Steve and wondering if you actually were Steve!

Perhaps I let my blood sugar get a bit low?

Anyway, just for potsy - a photograph that proves that I once was skinny and illustrates why I'm reluctant to go too low with my weight again. I was going to blank out my face out because it is such an unflattering picture, but then it wouldn't really make the point so well. It was taken at the end of the Manchester 100 in 2001 or 2002. That yellow jacket was hanging off me then. I can hardly get into it now!

(Before anybody asks - no, I hadn't had a 'little accident'! ;) I couldn't be bothered to get my scanner out and reinstall the software for it so I took a photo of the original photo and the camera picked up some reflections.)

Your blood sugar couldn't possibly be low after that huge piece of chocolate cake you had at the cafe  the same cake that me and Big Steve declined due to our superior willpower(nothing to do with the huge ham, egg and chips we had just demolished)
Nice photo Colin, I don't think you look too gaunt there at all, could have gone a few pounds lower

I was 4 stone lighter than I am now! Are you trying to kill me? ;)

You guys are confusing me by switching avatars all the time! I notice that you are using the same one that Speicher has changed to - what is it and is there any significance to that?

Sounds like you had a fun! No, I didn't wait at Spring Wood; I had to take Gti Junior to Trashy Park for go-karting.

Colin are you putting any of your piccies up from Sunday? Or are you still photo shopping them to hide your 'sumo' belly
Ha ha - that's why I've stopped using the camera's timer and don't feature in my own shots any more!

& for a short while - Svendo

Enjoyed that first ride, shame about the weather.
I'v fitted one of my spare post & saddles - 225 grms heavier!!!
That's a lot for a little chap like me to lug around - & yes, I can really tell the difference

Glad everyone got home safe n sound.

I'm going onto this Sundays thread now for the Up North - 100 mile ride to the coast & back.

See you there.

Gordon

I can really feel the difference between the steel Basso I was riding on Sunday which is probably about 21 pounds (I haven't weighed it) and my Al Cannondale which I will probably ride on the century ride. The Cannondale is probably about 17 or 18 pounds.

Your winter-mode bike is 5 or 6 pounds lighter than that with an extra pound off on the summer version. That really is a big difference, and as you say - with you being so small relative to me, it is going to feel about 40% more significant to you than it would to me.

You can imagine how much difference it will make to me going from the 21 pound bike, and me unfit weighing 15.5 - 16 stone to the 17 pound bike, and me fit weighing 12.5 stone! Hopefully, I will get somewhere close to that before next winter.
