Was a hard decision, whether to buy the CR3, or the CGR

The 'state of play' on the Ribble site, still says pending

There's a restaurant/bar in the village now, licenced to sell alcohol, rather nicely named;

I presume that part of the thesis was on the man himself?
He did live for a while, as a young man, not that far from me (circa 3 miles, as 'crow flies')
Once more, my file images seem to have disappeared, during a 'PC paddy', so I refer to Geograph;

No i didn' t write much about Sir Titus, more the utopian socialism of the day, pioneered by Robert Owen at New Lanark some years before, you know radical stuff like paying workers in money rather than tokens that they had to spend at the owners shop....i had best stop there in case there are any Tory ministers logging in to CC.

A bit like the song '16 Tons', where the same happens, & in Steinbecks Grapes Of Wrath' (I think?)

Like most married men, any purchase over a certain amount (figures can change at random!) have to be certified by 'management'/'SWMBO'

Because they want two holidays???
Already sorted, pre Saltaire visit

I agree with this. I am often trying to explain to shop girls and telephone salesman that I am not authorised to make executive decisions and that I must consult with higher management.

Any person shouldnt need permission to spend their own money unless the household is on a very tight budget.Just get what you what, its your money

Its always interesting to hear how people manage their finances, when we married we merged bank accounts and it became our money, its worked well for 44 years so far, other systems are available.

No idea but i would note that Saltaire is one of the first workers social housing models in the world....top philanthropy by Sir Titus Salt...i did my postgrad thesis on it....er, what was the question?
Was the (very much smaller) Colliers housing at Whitwood also a part of your study, what is known as the Voysey Houses (& the adjacent Pub, that he also designed)
Which aren't very far from me

Good luck with that. Let us know what it rides like when you get it on the road.
Will do, & pics
IF, it arrives on Monday (6th), allowing for being stuck at a courier depot over weekend, sadly I'm on 10:00 - 18:00 all next week, so won't really get chance to try it out properly until the weekend

As Ray Moore (the long since departed Radio 2 DJ) used to call his wife; 'Management'

I hadn't realised Voysey had designed this scheme, he is best known for his single houses for rich clients a la Deanery Gardens etc.
It looks about the same period as Letchworth which was a focus of my thesis, as was most of the work by Parker and Unwin ... That scheme basically was the blueprint of all suburban housing estates in the past 100 odd years as a way of combatting inner city slums and cholera epidemics.
Don' t get me started ... LOL

I don't have many photos of them. but here's a couple of old ones (I know they're old, as I sold that Discovery in early 2006!)

A while ago, I had a chat with someone who lived in the terraced row
They still get architectural students knocking on the doors, asking if they can have a look at any original features (not many now, & only in certain houses)

Edit @16:06

Just checked
Status changed to 'In Picking'

Whether that implies gathering all the componentry, or picking up the order to build it??)
I don't know if that means it will be ready for despatch tomorrow??

Great stuff ! What I always loved about Voysey was that he was a true modernist architect in Victorian times...Westbury below would have seemed totally alien to anyone at the time, a fingers up to all the classicism of the previous 300 years.

Also, just imagine what a chance would have taken place in Morecambe, when the previous Midland Hotel was demolished, & the (Oliver Hill designed) present building erected!?
http://www.midlandhotel.org/index.html

I've seen it, in its 70's rundown state, as a B&B/café, to its 80's/90's dereliction, & had 'afternoon tea' in it after its grand reopening

Crikey!, this swerving away from a new bike thread

I've been on a certain (Land Rover Series ) forum, where you & I would have been warned, then had posts removed, & even banned for varying from the original point of discussion

With regard to my Midland Hotel meanderings, I forgot something
Oliver Hill, its architect, also had an interest in educational buildings - sometimes waiving any design fees
There's one of his, in Castleford, one of the few to be built/survive
I have no pictures of it myself, but it is purported to survive in its original state

If we are going of topic and onto Art Deco, a bit closer to home for you @Richard A Thackeray is this house in Oxford Street Castleford.

I know that one very well indeed, & have looked at it for many years
That angle belies its surroundings though

That's an old listing, & it's for sale again, presently at £350,000

Had an e-mail from Ribble, late on Friday
The brakes weren't in stock (Tiagra hydraulic), hence the delayed build
They should be in stock tomorrow, & bike built, released to courier - late Thursday/Friday morning
Apparantly

Status is now; 'Dispatched'
