A lot of cycling going on in the Surrey Hills today.

Ive been asked to organise a series of training rides, in the Surrey Hills, leading up to the Ride London 100 in July. I did the first of them today.
The ride went brilliantly, there were a lot of cyclists in the hills today. I don't usually go out there, past there, but not into the Surrey Hills. Is it always like that? It's great, because the less experienced / strong riders in the group didn't get all down hearted, and demotivated because there were a fair few people walking their bikes up the steeper climbs. Some cracking views as a reward as well

I've just realised I made a slight error with the route. The Ride London 100 doesn't go up to Ranmore. Oh well, it's all good training miles.

As said above, it's busy on any weekend of the year now and especially so when the weather is good. That said you can still easily find empty roads - more so if you head out early and avoid the more obvious Box, Leith Hills etc.

Pitch/Holmbury are not as busy with road bikes, and Peaslake village store does great cheese straws. (Sampled y'day)

Absolutely, favourite roads once you get South of the A25. You do get quite a few people on those funny bikes with knobbly tyres around Peaslake though...

Peaslake used to be an annual pilgrimage for me for the Holmbury Hill Half Marathon.

Is that still going? If so I highly recommend it to people with working knees who like uphillness.

At my level it added up to the same thing. I was just aiming to get back alive.
People who didn't know what they were in for could get caught out badly, and it was quite satsfying in a Schadenfreudey way for me to plod slowly past skinny whippets staggering up hills after 10miles.

Ever do the Steyning Stinger, a winter trail HM? If 12 miles of mud don't do you, the last climb to the finish has people on hands and knees...
