In one, I put it to the OP that he was so pre occupied at oggling the cyclist in question that he would not have noticed whether she looked over her shoulder or not.

didn't realise he was joking, I was under the impression that thumbs up was given to the quote normally. In which case I apologise to 4f. (thud as he gets off his high horse)

Rowan 46. You've made the fatal mistake, and you can not be forgiven.

1 - You look at the bike.

2 - You might just notice a person on it.

3 - Well what ever - sin has been committed.

I quite often see a young lass on my way to work, I've had a few chats with her, but this morning... she was on a GB Dogma.... FFS  (PS she's not a GB rider, but is very quick on a bike)

You are quite right for years. I have only noticed other cyclists as fellow road users since joining this place I have found myself looking at bikes and lusting after them ( it's really quite disturbing) as the cyclist passed I noticed it was a woman and quite pretty and as you say sin entered my heart again. Is there perchance a place where one can be absolved from this unholy lust for nicer bikes than I possess or can afford?

Mad@urage, in this situation the looking you suggest is a load of crap. Going by the drivers slamming on brakes to avoid the cyclist, it's obvious she didn't look at all, and she certainly didn't negotiate out either or signal. Fail.

It depends what cycling faith you believe in. You may be damned already.

I read the OP's post as saying two alert car drivers had to brake hard for the cyclist who suddenly came into their path without looking, which point I think the OP has confirmed. Mad@urage reads it as a bit of gentle braking to wait behind a cyclist taking the lane.

I did read it as that, still do. The OP said "two cars put the brakes on".

Only one of the people posting was there. There was originally nothing about braking hard. Nobody criticising the riding was the rider or knows what she knew about the traffic behind her without looking (and yes you can know without looking).

This morning I moved from secondary to primary. I knew the car was overtaking (guess how? I'd heard it!), I knew how far away it was - by seeing it out of the corner of my eye. I neither shoulder-checked nor signalled: There was no need, because I knew the traffic situation. In primary I prevented the next car back overtaking before lights. I suspect he braked.
