A possibility for the bikeless:

If anyone is looking for a new bike with an interesting, right-on pedigree, you may be interested in this choice (3-speed, I think, German engineered)

Workers at a bicycle factory in Germany were facing redundancy and the closure of the factory. Instead of accepting this state of affairs, they decided to show they could run the factory better than the managers, who they say were running the factory down. They have occupied the premises and are trying to secure orders for 1,800 'strike bikes', but must do so by 2 October. If they don't make that total (they are currently at around 1,000) they will refund every order.

The bikes come emblazoned with the slogan 'Strike Bike' and cost 275 euros - around £165.

Their website, with online ordering, is here:

I've chalked my name down - if they make it to the required numbers I'll have a badass laid back German socialist cruiser!

Well, it's actually £200 odd with my transfer charge and less optimistic exchange rate ;)
Got an email confirming I'd receive it in early November!

Can't believe the spec on it for the money - shimano hub dynamo, 3 spd SRAM hub etc. Something tells me those are factory leftovers!
