The radio series is far, far superior to that rubbish film which came out a few years back. Good grief, it was an awful adaptation- load of dingo's kidneys

Douglas Adams chose the track due to the banjo reminding him of the loneliness of solo travel. The BBC stuck it on the shows and loads of people would write in and ask when they were going to release it, not realising that many already had it in their LP collection. Listen to the end credits for some last minute gags:

I'd like to have seen his interpretation of it but with the caveat that the Starship Titanic book DNA entrusted to Terry Jones was utter gash too. Albeit they were very different arms of monty python
