A Question for flat dwellers

I live in a flat. The housing association kindly gave me a locked up ground floor room, accessible from the outside as well as the inside. It's nice and warm(like my own little garage) and has a cold tap,so i use a bucket and sponge to wash my bikes outside. The flat i was in before was up 3 flights of stairs so i showered my bike in the bath. I miss that shower! It was nearly as powerful as a jetwash and before anyone tells me,yes i knew to avoid blasting the bottom bracket.

I used to remove the wheels and wash them in the bath, then the frame was done in the same way. The shower head was particularly handy for this.
If you've a mountain bike and it's caked, careful use of a petrol station carwash hose shifts most of the crud.

Or you could have kids which round here at least...entitles you to a house

I purchased a couple of hessian type rugs from ikea (very cheap) and use them to line the bottom of the bath, then just wash the bike in the bath. I start with wheels on to get the worst of the muck off, then i take the wheels off and do the frame and wheels separately. It works very well for me and the rugs stop the bath from getting scratched by the sprockets or chain. The rugs then just get transferred to the washing machine for a quick clean up, and because they stay wet during the whole cleaning process they always come up like new again..

Once dirty enough to need cleaning, it's time to buy a new bike... and a house so you can have more bikes

Was lucky enough to be able to wash and lube my bike at work when I use to live in a flat. When it rained on the way home I'd just dry it and get rid of most grime with a rag before wheeling it in the flat

The abovementioned bench has never been used by anyone but me in all the time I've lived here. I don't do muddy, so I'm not dropping crud over everything, and I clean up afterward. If the bench was used as intended, I wouldn't be using it as described.

Apologies for the disparaging comments, if we'd known you had the bench under 24/7 watch then those comments would never have happened.
