I've recently started selling some stuff on eBay. I haven't received my money for the last four sales and a little notice has popped up on Paypal saying this:

"Payment holds on your eBay transactions. we are working with eBay to make buying and selling even safer. As part of payment holds for new eBay sellers , we'll hold the money from your eBay transactions for up to 21 days."

21 days?! Anyway, I read somewhere that if you get proof of postage or a tracking number, they'll let you have your money before then. I got a proof of postage receipt from the post office but I've got no idea what to do with it now. Anyone know? :headshake:

I've had an account with Paypal for years so can't really advise you on the 21 days as it doesn't apply to me, but I always send stuff by registered delivery so they have to sign for it when it arrives at their end.

Have you verified your PayPal account? Not sure it's related but the Mrs had a problem with PayPal when she first started using it and it was because it wasn't a verified account.

How much extra does that cost? The stuff I've sent so far has been £3 for a small parcel.

Yep, my Paypal is verified.

Don't want to worry you but Paypal seem to have an ever increasing repertoire of doing this. My brother sold quite a few items on e-bay expensive items i might add watches ,bikes, i-pad's ,i phones's etc. He was saving for a car and thought his Paypal account was the ideal place to keep the cash safe. Bad idea suddenly Paypal put his funds on hold and a lock on his account due to suspicious activity ? They started off saying 21 days in which time he has provided proof of everything to the last detail of ownership of every item , proof of postage to every customer and yet still hasn't got his money back. Apparently they can keep it for 180 days then have to return it i think its now up to 196 days and he hasn't received a penny back. Being fobbed off every day via e-mail and written letter, Its quite a large sum of money which Paypal have been gathering interest on for that amount of time.

I for one have lost all faith in Paypal and never leave any money in there for more than a few minutes.

I'm not a massive fan of Paypal either and I try to use Google Wallet as much as I can, I just wish Paypal wasn't the only way you could use eBay.

I'm waiting on £25 right now and as soon as I get it (if I do get it), it's going straight into my bank account.

Just an extra £1.10 on top of your normal postage cost.

I've had a PayPal account since pre-history, so not experienced this. But my daughter has and she was not pleased. I too do not keep any money in PayPal. It's tantamount to theft I'd say. I mean, it's not as though we can withold fees from them. eBay is a great idea, but the cut they take (eBay and PayPal combined) is nothing short of scandalous and should be investigated. Bet they don't pay any UK tax either.

I seem to recall this was covered by watchdog recently. I'd suggest flagging it to them. And I also think they should be made to pay interest on the duration of the time they are holding their customer's money - they'd sort it out quicker then....

PayPal often hold funds for new accounts, irregular activity, or for big ticket items, to, so they say, protect the buyer. It's a right royal pain in the bottom. I feckin hate PayPal me.

Mrs 3BM and also a mate have recently had trouble, with ebay and paypal, selling stuff, it's all firmly weighted in favour of the buyer now and they can open a dispute within minutes of winning an item, on both occasions paypal took the money back from either the paypal account or the bank account. I think they changed their system to ward off unscrupulous sellers but it's gone way too far the other way now and there are too many buyers that know they can get goods and money back with very little hassle from ebay/paypal. They really are a bunch of twonks, I think one of their big problems is they have no admin staff so there's no-one to check on simple stuff to prove buyers have received goods, my friend lost out even though he had a signed delivery and the buyer had left feedback, unbelievable!

If I was owed that amount, I'd be consulting a solicitor.

Me too it just one of those things that's dragged on and on with promises of dates they will repay it back etc. He is a customer service persons worst nightmare my brother so i am surprised he has let it get this far tbh.

I recently brought some stuff off ebay. It arrived and was OK, but I forgot to leave feedback.

The seller contacted ma and asked that if I were happy could I leave positive feedback or paypal would hold onto their money. I was and did, have they had feedback on their sales yet?
