Except that the Pinnacle is a 7 speed with no front derailleur, whilst the Trek is a 3x7 21 speed.

I think a lot depends on where she will be riding.

More and more bikes are coming with one chainring at the front and a 7/8 speed cassette at the back. This works well for commuting/utility use in an area that has moderate hills.

As well as the gear difference, the Pinarello uses much narrower, and slightly cheaper tyres (25c Kendas on the Pinarello, as opposed to 35c Bontragers on the Trek)

As long as I breathe, I attack.
After a quick look i would go for the trek as it has the extra gears range and stronger wheels , do both have mounting points and clearances for rack + gaurds?
