Berlin is cool, loads to see and do  Not many old buildings, other than the Reichstag for obvious reasons
It's certainly had a few votes on this thread and there seems to be some decent deals floating round for the dates we're looking at, plus we've never been. Mrs Mugshot has been to Germany with her folks a few times for a Christmas market break but never Berlin

Sounds good, even higher end hotels tend to be a good price for a capital city too

If hes on a budget is Ireland a good idea?, everyone I know whos been to both Northern Ireland and Eire say how extortionate everything is.
Ireland isn't quite out of the window but it's close, to be honest for convenience it's blooming marvellous as we're 10minutes from the port, but the price of going over with the car, which I would have quite enjoyed, is frankly crazy (well I think it is) and that of course is before accommodation etc otherwise it would have been right at the top of the list.

Absolutely, 5 star inc flights, 3 nights for £200 - £250 each is heading towards being a no brainier. good infrastructure once you're there and there's this travel pass which I know nothing about yet but that looks interesting too.

Over the last couple of years we have had over 20 nights in Liverpool, each time we leave we know we still have so much left to do. Back there in March staying at The Nadler and a couple of afternoons will be spent in The Cavern.

We go several times a year to Berlin, it never fails to bore us. We stay at Clipper City which are self catering apartments (recently refurbished). You are smack bang in the middle of Berlin, central to everything interesting and historical. Only a bus ride from Tegel airport. I wouldn't bother with the travel pass if you are okay with walking because most sites of interest are doable on foot.

That's an interesting option, stupid question I guess but is there a decent supermarket nearby?

+1 for Edinburgh. The council services are appalling for residents but it's an amazing city for a tourist. Loads to see, the Castle, Royal Yacht Britannia, Museum of Scotland, the Botanics, the Forth Bridge, loads of galleries, loads of top class restaurants, loads of places to enjoy just walking about.
A couple of other Scottish options -
St Andrews is a very pleasant place to stay, very well heeled, lots of interesting places to visit in the vicinity.
Glasgow is somewhat less refined, certainly rougher around the edges (some would say more authentic) but lots to see and more than enough nice hotels and restaurants.

Yes there are 2 decent supermarkets nearby. If you go on a Friday at 6pm you might even bump into Angela Merkel doing her food shop, was quite a shock seeing her pushing a trolley around! Both supermarkets are in walking distance from the apartments.

As it's your anniversary, do you have a "special " place? The place you met, first date or just a favourite pre-children spot?
Mr6 and I did most of our "courting" in York, which makes it a favourite place to visit.
Glasgow is a good city to visit, and we've enjoyed Liverpool again quite recently.
We went to Amsterdam for our first child free break and to celebrate our 15th anniversary.

Well we met in Tesco coffee shop, first date we went to see Back to the Future and favourite pre children spot was probably a car park just on the outskirts of our home town, it had a nice view. Now that would be a cheap 25th anniversary do!
However, a decision has been made and it is.........................................

Berlin :cheers:self catering :hungry:. So we know who to blame if it's crap! We're booked and paid for from the 1st to the 4th of May so I've got two months to learn German.
Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and advice it really was appreciated and a big help :okay::hugs:
